Our History
Talsma Furniture’s beginnings started in 1948 in Hudsonville, with Bert Talsma and his father. Bert had spent some time working at other furniture stores and helping his dad with farming before getting into the furniture business himself. At first the small store carried everything from appliances to gifts, and later focused primarily on furniture.
There were some bumps along the way, including a fire that destroyed the Hudsonville location and forced the Talsma family to open a location in Holland in 1984. When the Hudsonville store was finally rebuilt, the Talsma's focused on growing the chain, and on the Grand Rapids area. After several additions to both Hudsonville and Holland, the family decided to open a third location in Byron Center in 1999 just off US 131 south of Grand Rapids. In April of 2013, a fourth location was opened in Grand Rapids (Cascade).
